Centrelink Age Pension

The Age Pension provides income support and access to a range of concessions, provided you meet the age and residence requirements. The amount you are eligible to receive depends on your income and assets. If you are still working past age pension age, you may get a partial Age Pension payment.

When you are caring for someone with a disability, medical condition, or who is frail aged, you may qualify for a Carer Payment or Carer Allowance.

Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA)

The Department of Veteran Affairs issues health cards to veterans, their war widow(er)s and dependants to ensure they have access to health and other care services.

Subject to certain conditions, travel expenses for a veteran/war widow(er) may also be provided to attend the health provider closest to their residence.

Commonwealth Seniors Health Card

You may be eligible for the Commonwealth Seniors Health card if you have reached Age Pension age but do not qualify for a Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs payment and you meet an income test. Some of the benefits include:

  • cheaper medicines
  • bulk-billed doctor visits
  • reduced council rates
  • reduced water rates
  • reduced gas and electricity rates
  • lowered costs for ambulance, dental and eye care
  • selected retail discounts

Government loans

As it can be difficult for pensioners to get a loan from the bank, the Department of Human Services offers some alternatives in the form of the Pension Loans Scheme and Advance Payment. We will be able to determine if these are suitable for your situation.
